Glacier Lake Gauli

Thanks to the retreat of the Gauli glacier a mighty glacier lake emerged after 1990 in the landscape trough behind the rock outcrop area. The so-called glacier milk refers to the gray or white turbid runoff water of a glacier. The turbidity comes from the fine powder eroded from the rocks and transported in the water. The typical turquoise coloring results from the reflection of the blue-green portion of the sunlight on the dissolved rock powder.
