Tracks of erosion in the limestone at the place «Wandflie»

Mönch and Jungfrau are composed of crystalline rock, meanwhile the Eiger and the northern pre-alpine mountains of limestones. Calcareous rocks are much less resistant to erosion, that’s why a small gorge with waterfalls was formed here under the influence of wind, weather and topography.
The gorge is most impressive during the snow melting, when larger quantities of meltwater flow out from the Eiger North Face. The power of erosion of the water can also be seen on the rocky sections of the Eiger trail.
