During the construction of the Jungfrau Railway, the Eiger glacier station was the heart of the construction site. Around 200 workers were housed during 15 years in summer and winter in barracks. The food and the material were delivered in the winter period with sledge dogs from the Kleine Scheidegg. Even today the workshops of the Jungfrau Railway at the Eiger glacier are still operative. After various re-dimensioning, the building of the former carpentry was empty and converted to a mountain restaurant for the skiing. The restaurant enjoys a great popularity due to the unique view.
