In the barns adorned with flowers on the Grosse Scheidegg, belonging to the mountain community Scheidegg, is stored the cheese produced during the alpine summer. The cheeses are salted and well-kept, and mature at almost 2000 m a.s.l. to alp cheese. Once an year, each mid-September (at the Prayer Saturday) , the traditional alp cheese festival takes place: on this day the herdsmen present the production of the summer and the cheese is shared among the farmers according to the rights of use and number of cattle. This traditional event is also open to visitors from outside. It is possible to discuss with dairymen and farmers and to shop bread rolls, alp cheese, alp butter and quark.
