The entrance to the Gastern valley leads through a narrow gorge, the “Chluse”. The passage was used already early time: hemmer climbed this bottleneck in a first steep climb on the way over the Lötschen pass. Since 1912 a drivable road leads up to Gastern valley. The construction of the road in this narrow rock passage was a structural masterpiece: admire the brick parapets, dry stone walls, two beautiful arched bridges, two tunnels and a half gallery. The road is still used today.
